Free with the next 8 purchases!

Along with my normal addition of goodies, the next 8 purchases at my Etsy shop, pistacia.etsy.com, will include a copy of the very limited edition trial version of "Brand New Works" for FREE!

This version of "Brand New Works" is a 12 page postcard collection of my 2008 works.

My first attempt at printing was met by many accidents, one of which being the use of the wrong bottle of glue. The end result however was 10 special little books, all bound with silver ribbon and printed with very delicate ink. Due to the improper use of glue each booklet unfortunately has overly easy to remove pages... perhaps not such a bad thing after all!

...and the Beato goes on!

I wasn't quite ready to call this one quits.

another great sunny day!

What an exciting day! I started my day with a few cut-ups. One, a portrait of my guru, Beatrice Wood... part of a series I'm now realizing :)

Second I started my image for a project I've begun with my art school partner in crime, and mom to be, Julie Chiasson.

We've started a book that with be mailed around Canada to six participating artist, each contributing a piece done in their own particular style. I of course have done a cut-up as my first piece.

I've been wanting to pay homage to my camel friend for a while now... and today was the perfect day to do so.

I've been working on some new critter designs as well. A camel, of course, a giraffe and a lion. I was so excited about the lion that I had to force myself to stay focused and finish my cut-ups!

The most exciting part of my day so far has been receiving my acceptance letter form Halifax Crafters to participate in their annual spring show in May!

I have so many fun crafts planned!

Now that the temperature is starting to change and the days are about to become longer, I can't get the garden off my mind... and my garden inspired crafts - don't you worry, they'll be coming soon!!!

it's ok

At the Valentine craft fair one of the volunteers from the Dalhousie Women's Centre asked if I had any posters about being pissed off at humanity?

Here you go....

another busy day in the life of a crafter

Today I was fortunate enough to take part in a Valentines Fair hosted by the Dalhousie Women's Centre and The Vagina Monologues. A great day - and cause!

It may have been a wet fog filled day, but the Dal Sub was a bustling flow of rain gear clad students - oh the beautiful rubber boots that I saw!

Surprising to me, I nearly sold out of my colouring books - and my new felted pin cushion rings were a big hit.

Checking up on the interweb I've just noticed that I was mentioned in Love, Me's latest post:

If you're still looking for a last minute Valentine prezzy - that's the place to go!

the season for love is fast approaching...

Well 2009 came in with a heavy blank canvas of snow, inaugurating the start of another creative year. I've been fortunate enough to reserve a table at the upcoming craft sale, Saturday February 7th, and have been crafting like crazy since New Years has past

I'm quite excited, the lovely miss Stephanie Nairn and I will be sharing a table as we display and sell our latest creations. Stephanie's line of jewelry and accessories, "Devilish," is highly influenced by retro pin-up art and cinema, featuring whimsical 40 & 50's icons and imagery. We will certainly have an interesting variety of crafts for all to peruse, that is for sure!

Since the craft fair is a week before Valentines I thought how lovely it would be to make special Valentines critters. Taking inspiration from Canadian musician, Born Ruffians, I have started creating little foxes to go along with their quote "foxes mate for love because they're in love."

A long time fan of the little rusty coloured critters, I'm just head over heels with my new fuzzy foxy fellas. Also I have some very special owl'n'pussycat couples I'm working on as well as a few grizzlies to cuddle with too!

Getting a little sore and cramped from the continuous stitching, and suffering a little scissor withdraw since the completion of the YES!+ 2009 calendar, I've started the first of a series of Valentines inspired quotes/portraits.

My first quote comes from the always inspirational Voltaire. This quote seems to be stirring up some additional creative juices... the wheels are turning, visions of brightly coloured felt, stone, feathers and twigs - let's see what happens...

Here's to 2009 being absolutely divine!

Highway 101 - 121208

I was born in Middleton, but didn't stay there too long. We lived in Paradise, Edmonton, somewhere in Mass. state, back to the valley to Wolfville then Port Williams and finally, two weeks before grade primary started, we moved to Halifax.

I spent many years there after commuting via Acadian Lines to my grandparents in Nictaux Falls.

The white gypsum cliffs in St Croix were the first landmark on the journey back to country, to nature. I would drive by picturing the earths plates shaking and cracking... eventually snapping and flying away from the other side as the earth took a giant growth spurt. I saw these cliffs as a shrine to the history of the land, of Nova Scotia.

Last spring I noticed that the cliff to the right as you approach the hill had been shaved nearly bald. Such an odd site. The vertical forest left to nothing but stumps and dirt. A pain squeezed deep in me, another reminder that the past can only exist in the past and sometimes when things change they can never, ever go back.

They began digging that cliff down last week. Piles of red mud are now spreading over the grass fields. I did however notice last night that they hit gypsum while digging. I'm hoping they will make up for defacing my beloved shrine by adding a new one, even closer to the highway for all to see.

so sad

this morning on our way into the city I saw that the workers had really made some way the last few days...

If the weather keeps up that lovely line of snow will be a fertile pile of red mud by the end of next week

This time next year commuters will be whizzing by emitting noxious fumes at even a greater rate

Primary Colours

Here is the missing shot from my Primary Colour triptych. I took this on the way home from the craft show in Chester Basin... where I made a whopping 50 cents (Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and "Boobies are Beautiful" postcards). Chester and Chester Basin are two very different places, it certainly was a learning experience.... none the less it was an awesome day, but on the way home I noticed they had clear cut the bank that runs along the gypsum cliffs in St Croix to make way for the double lane of the highway. Sadly this landscape will only look like this a few more days, another constant in life fades away.
